We aim for children to develop a life-long love of music, whether that be as a performer or a listener. Through being given access to a wide range of practical opportunities, all children play instruments, sing, compose and listen.
Our curricular music lessons are based on the Charanga original scheme, but music is so much more than just the lessons. We love to sing, whether that's in lessons, assemblies or in the choir. Each year group puts on a musical show every year. For many children (and parents!) these are the highlights of the year.
Children are introduced to a range of composers, artists and musical genres in assemblies - everything from Vivaldi to Dolly Parton, from Elvis to Bach.
All children are taught the full curriculum, with adaptations made where required for SEND children. These include, but are not limited to, scaffolding of tasks, changes to the way the children record their learning, and focussing on particular key skills and concepts.
As Charanga is a commercial scheme we can't reproduce it here, but the links below will give you a flavour of what we teach.
The provision for music is particularly impressive at the school. Pupils love singing and do so skilfully.ofsted 2020
